From the Artistic Director
Dear CYT Students & Families,
About a hundred years ago, between undergraduate and graduate school, someone at my church suggested I do a drama program with the kids. Well, being young and full of spunk (yes, even MORE spunk than now!), I never considered the proposition – and off I went to grad school and beyond, not giving it a moment’s thought until I had kids of my own. It’s funny how life turns on you, isn’t it? Here I am, newly appointed Artistic Director, working with your children and loving it!
I am so excited and blessed to be a part of this organization! The start of the Spring session has been amazing so far: we have a record number of students, auditioned over 100 kids for Wizard of Oz, are in the midst of production planning meetings for our first show at the Kroc Center, and have moved into a new office. Whew!
In the midst of the busyness, I’m focusing in and assessing my responsibility as Artistic Director. I want to be obedient to the Lord, to the staff, the kids and CYT families, utilizing my talents in any way that’s needed. As Artistic Director in an educational environment, it’s my goal that parents and families have an understanding of what we “do” at CYT. Theatre is best when it’s a collaborative effort, layering the talents and ideas of many into one unifying goal. To that end, I want to make myself available to you, the families, to answer any questions and concerns you may have about theatre’s process; and how we use it to support CYT’s goal of building character in your kiddo!
I can’t wait to get to know you all. If I haven’t met you yet, let’s remedy that soon!
